When our next event is, a signed Tom Brady jersey, and feeling SHORT

☀️ Good morning, I am trying something a bit different this week where I write more informally and personally about happenings in our SDR community here in NYC. I’ve realized that when I meet people in person/on the phone/over text I speak and build relationships one way, and then when I start writing here I totally shift to another tone that doesn’t really feel as natural 😂 so I’m trying to change that.

Events!

🍸️ Events are becoming more and more of a focus for Chris and I. Our last event in July (video montage linked below) was a huge success. We had 42 people in total show up at Maxwell Social’s Tribeca clubhouse and in the 1.5 months since we all came together we have placed three people who we met at the event.

On the topic of events…

One of the things I’ve realized as we’ve hosted more events is that in addition to being great opps to meet new people and hangout w/ existing community members, they’re also amazing excuses to explore new places in NYC.

I genuinely think one of the coolest things about living in New York is that there are so many people doing so many different things across so many different spaces.

For instance, yesterday, Chris and I went to tour a space for our October event and it turns out it was the office of the production company that made the movie Eighty For Brady (as Boston natives the signed Brady jersey on the wall was the biggest flex of all time 🤤). The director of the movie was literally in the room and we had to be quiet b/c they were filming an audition…kind of wild!

Anyways, the point is that I’ve realized recently that this business/community and exploring NYC do not have to be totally separate.

We can use TopSDRs as a medium for exploring really cool, new spots alongside an amazing community of people.

It’s not just big events:

The other thing I’ve realized is that we don’t need to do huge 30-50 person gatherings to get out and explore NYC with amazing people.

Something Chris and I started up earlier this year is taking every person we place out to dinner.

Last week we had two dinners with three candidates we placed. The first was at an amazing restaurant called Chama Mama, which came highly recommended as one of the best Georgian restaurants in NYC (shoutout Dalya for landing an awesome role as a founding GTM hire at Drumkit).

The second was Cecchis in the West Village, which was a really cool steakhouse-esq spot that was absolutely popping. The burger was fantastic and it was amazing celebrating Nick and Max joining Profound as GTM associates. Unfortunately for me, among our group of 5 I somehow ended up being the shortest person there (photo evidence below)…

Shoutout to Nick and Max for landing roles at Profound. Unfortunately, this is likely the last time I hangout with this group…

Anyways, the point of all of this is to say that we can kind of do whatever we want with this community. Of course for Chris and I the goal from a business standpoint is to place exceptional people into amazing roles at the world’s best companies, but there’s no reason we can’t make it fun and interesting along the way. Whether it’s big events or 1:1 dinners there is lots of opportunity for us as a community to explore all the awesome things this city has to offer.

🍸️ Our Next Event:

So with that said, I’m HYPED to announce our next big community event will be on October 8th from 6-8pm EDT. The location will be announced closer to the actual date, but you can apply to attend HERE.

SF Ask:

Also, we just picked up a role for a Thrive backed startup based in SF. This role came to us via a very trusted partner. I realize there’s a lot of irony in this after everything I posted above, but if anyone knows any Top SDRs based in SF we’d love to meet them so please send them our way (you can just reply to this email, text me, or send me something on LI).

Let me know what you think of this new format and have a great Tuesday!
